Sports Gran Canaria

What about Sports Gran Canaria?

You don't have to stop your exercise routine just because you're on vacation.

The Sports Gran Canaria page introduces you to some of the sports you can practice on the island year round.

Gran Canaria is the perfect place to practice sports all year.

Professional athletes choose the island as the destination for their winter training.

The mild climate of Gran Canaria makes it the ideal place for keeping in shape and getting ready for the new season.

It doesn't matter what sport you practice because the temperature is always just right.

What sport would you like to practice while you're on vacation? Would you like to walk your way into shape? Are you a golfer? What about paragliding?

Some hotels have arrangements with outside groups who practice these and other sports. Be sure to ask your hotel to see what's available.

Golf

Gran Canaria Golf is the best golf you will find in the Canary Islands. The first golf course built in Spain was built in Gran Canaria.

The island is the forerunner in this field and has now recently been recognized around Europe as an important Golf destination.

Golf tourism is now a very important part of the island's efforts to attract more tourists to this beautiful island.

There are eight exclusive Golf courses for you to choose from.

On this map you can view the Golf courses around the island. Click on a Green Golfer to see pictures and websites.

Go Karting

Gran Canaria Go Karting(or go carting) can help you satisfy your need for speed while you're on vacation.

The Gran Karting Club of Gran Canaria opens their three circuits everyday.

There is a junior track, senior track and an infantil track available for organized competitions or just for fun.

The go karting circuit is located just 10 minutes from Playa del Ingles and offers free transport for big groups(six people or more).

In addition to competitions, the go carting club organizes barbecues and night parties for groups and companies.

For more information about one of the best go karting circuits in Spain you can visit their website at:

Walking

One of the first things I did when I arrived here was to explore Gran Canaria walking.

Since the island was formed by volcanic activity many years ago, Gran Canaria, has a very interesting topography.

When friends come out to visit us, one of the first things we do is to take them out for a walk. You can enjoy scenic strolls thoughout the island or walk for exercise while you're on vacation.

Furthermore, the great weather makes walking in Gran Canaria a pleasure that can be enjoyed year round. There are many places in Gran Canaria where you can plan a walk.

Many of the resorts in the southern part of the island are equipped with walkways along the coast where you can look at the ocean as you exercise.

In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria you can also find walkways along the shores of the city, such as in Las Canteras and the avenue that runs along the ocean commonly known as the ,"Avenida Maritima".

There are also outdoor commercial areas, for example, Avenida Jose Mesa y Lopez or Calle Mayor Triana, where you can walk and shop at the same time!

So if you are looking for a vacation where you can walk and sight see too, then don't worry. There are many areas of the island that are prepared just for pedestrians to enjoy.

Sports Gran Canaria recommends these ideal places for walking:

  • Paseo de las Meloneras
  • Paseo del Faro
  • Paseo de la Charca Maspalomas
  • Paseo Costa Canaria
  • Paseo Maritimo
  • Paseo de Las Canateras

Rock Climbing

The rugged terrain and rebellious rock formations make Gran Canaria climbing a serious challenge for any rock climber.

The island is endowed with routes of various lengths and levels of complexity.

You can choose from sites such as Ayacata, La Librería, El Frontón del GEC, La Candelilla, El Montañón, El Pino and El Aserrador to name a few.

Sports Gran Canaria Tip:

If you intend on rock climbing in Gran Canaria then some good advice is to contact local clubs who can guide you in the area or contact the Canary Island Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing at:
www.fedcam.es. This site is only in Spanish.

Below are some local clubs you can contact too.
